Terms of Use

The health information provided in this calculator has been developed by the National Heart Foundation of New Zealand (Heart Foundation) and is based on independent research and available scientific evidence at the time of development. This calculator has been developed for general information and educational purposes only. The calculator is made available free of charge.

The calculator explains the importance of knowing your blood pressure and cholesterol numbers. The content in this calculator does not give medical advice in relation to any individual case or patient, nor does it provide medical or diagnostic services.

While care has been taken in the development of this calculator, the Heart Foundation, its employees and related parties do not accept any liability, including for any loss or damage, resulting from the reliance on the content, or for its accuracy, currency and completeness.

The content in the calculator provides medical information for use as information or for educational purposes. We do not warrant that information we provide will meet your health or medical requirements. It is up to you to contact a health professional if you are concerned about your health.

If you have, or suspect you have, a health problem, please consult your healthcare provider before using the calculator.

Privacy Statement

The Heart Foundation (referred to in this privacy statement as "we", "our" or "us") is committed to safeguarding the privacy of individuals who visit the website myheartcheck.org.nz. We understand that your personal information is precious and needs to be looked after.

We collect your age, ethnicity, height, weight, residential address, and some health information. This information allows us to accurately calculate a heart health score. You can choose not to fill in any particular field, but not entering some information may affect the accuracy of the calculator.

We collect your residential address because where you live has been shown to affect your health outcomes. We match your address to statistical information to see what broad health outcomes may be associated with where you live. We do not use your address for any other purpose, and once the match is made and your heart health score provided to you, your address is permanently deleted.

We also collect the internet address (IP address) of the computer you are entering information from, to help us deduplicate data for analysis purposes. We don’t track your use of this site using cookies.

If you have provided us with your email address so we can send you copy of your results we will only use the address for that purpose, and will delete it afterwards.

The Heart Foundation will use some of the information you enter into the calculator (including your age, ethnicity, gender and region) for internal improvement purposes. We analyse this information to check the calculator is performing well, and to see if it is reaching the right communities and people.

We will not share information you enter into the calculator outside the Heart Foundation. Our partner WellSouth operates the calculator and securely stores the information it processes on our behalf. Information used for internal improvement and analysis purposes is held by the Heart Foundation in its own systems.
